Bing gains natural search market share

Natural search provider Bing increased its market share in January by four per cent.

Figures from Experian Hitwise revealed Google maintained its position as the market leader in February with 70.95 per cent - down one per cent month-on-month - while Yahoo! maintained its market share of 14.57 per cent.

Microsoft's Bing was one of the biggest movers of the month, however, showing four per cent growth to 9.7 per cent.

Furthermore, this increase could be set to continue after rumours emerged earlier this month that Apple could be preparing a partnership with Microsoft to make Bing its default search engine for the iPhone.

Bing was officially launched by Microsoft chief executive officer Steve Ballmer on May 28th last year.

The key difference between Bing and its competitors, at present, is the inclusion of a related search feature in its Explorer Pane that enables users to search for other related queries using its semantic technology.
