Mobile internet 'gaining popularity in web development'

Mobile internet is becoming an important aspect of web development, as more Europeans are using the technology on a regular basis.

Philip Bates, a senior manager with Analysys Mason, said the future looks rosy for mobile internet services, with more people accessing the web from their phone than ever before.

He commented: "Whether you look at it from the perspective of device sales or network usage, the growing importance of the mobile internet is indisputable."

Mr Bates noted, however, that a reliance on 3G and other forms of fast-access mobile internet means providing a universal service could be tricky, as the high frequency of these wavelengths means penetration into rural areas could prove difficult.

According to figures from the European Interactive Advertising Association, 71 million Europeans use the internet on their mobile each week.

Furthermore, the organisation showed it is young people in particularly - those aged 16 to 24 - who are pushing adoption forward.
